What Is the Difference Between A Hurricane Watch and A Hurricane Warning?
As hurricane season approaches, we thought it would be a good idea to review the difference between a hurricane warning and a hurricane watch. Often times during the hurricane season, you might hear an announcement about a hurricane watch or warning. Let’s take a moment and define them.
A Hurricane Watch indicates there is a threat of a hurricane, but it is not imminent. This notice usually covers a specific area and time period.
A Hurricane Warning indicates a hurricane is expected within 24-hours with sustained winds of 74 mph or more. (Note: Hurricanes are classified into 5 major categories based on wind speed.)
It is important to remember; insurance companies will suspend writing coverage during either a Hurricane Watch or Hurricane Warning. Make sure before hurricane season starts, you have reviewed your coverage's and paid your premium.
